Best Weekend Camping Itinerary for Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

Sequoia National Park and its lesser known neighbor, Kings Canyon National Park are some of the most beautiful National Parks in the country. When people think about California, they often think about the giant sequoia trees. From Southern California, the closest place to see them is one of these two parks so it is no surprise that they often top the lists of places that people want to visit.

Planespotting at LAX from In-N-Out

The In-N-Out location near LAX is a very popular spot for people to watch the planes arrive and depart LAX, especially from the north complex. That is because the In-N-Out and the park across the street is almost directly under the arrivals runway's, 24R, final approach. The planes come thundering overhead, so close that it feels like you could jump up and touch them.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Instagram Influencer Post

The Fox Bruin Theater in Westwood Village is a historical movie theater in Los Angeles built in 1937. It is also one of the settings in the Quentin Tarantino film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That is why it was the perfect place to photograph an Instagram post for Sony Pictures to promote the film's release.

Leo Carrillo Beach Photography

Leo Carrillo is one of my favorite beaches in the Los Angeles area for photography. There is so much diversity within walking distance that you can create whatever look you desire. There is plenty of white and beach, rocky cliffs, tall grass that sways in the wind, a good surf break and even a sea arch and walk-through cave.

Photographing the Santa Monica Pier at Sunset

One of the most photographed spots in Los Angeles is the Santa Monica pier and for good reason. It is a very iconic landmark in Los Angeles and it helps that the pier and its surroundings are so photogenic. This means that it in increasingly more difficult to capture a unique photo of the pier.

Scuba Diving with the Giant Black Sea Bass at Casino Point

Coming face to face with a giant black sea bass while scuba diving can be a bit of an adrenaline rush. These sea creatures can be in excess of 560 pounds and more than seven feet long. Despite their size, it is somewhat rare to spot them because there is only estimated to be around 500 with only 40-50 returning to Catalina to spawn. Amanda and I had the fortunate experience to encounter seven of them during our weekend trip to Catalina.

A Private Tour of Virgin Galactic and Spaceship 2

I had the opportunity with Marco recently to fly up to Mojave Spaceport for a private tour of Virgin Galactic's facility, White Knight 2 and Spaceship 2. It was an incredible experience! Unfortunately, we were not able to take photos inside the facility but I did capture some GoPro Fusion 360 photos along the way and from outside the hangar.

Photographing the First Falcon 9 Heavy Operational Launch

Growing up in Florida I have seen so many launches, from rockets to the space shuttle, but it never gets old. I was fortunate enough to be there for work during the first operational launch of the Falcon 9 Heavy. After a delay and then a scrub on the first attempt, I was able to make it back for the next night and the actual launch.

Photographing a Scrubbed SpaceX Launch

Rocket launches are one of the toughest things to photograph but also one of the most rewarding to photograph. One of the biggest challenges is timing and that starts with the launch itself. Some times you can travel great distances and make sacrifices to arrive at your perfect location, the weather may cooperate but in the end, the rocket may not launch. The launch is scrubbed. This happened to me on the most recent SpaceX Falcon 9 Heavy launch from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral.

Another Griffith Park Sunset | Last Hike of 2018

We spent the end of 2018 the same way that we spent the end of 2017, hiking. Griffith Park is one of our favorite hiking spots in Los Angeles because the views of Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles and the entire LA Basin are spectacular. There are so many trails throughout Griffith Park that you are sure to find new adventures each time you go.
