Photographing Charlotte Airport

CHARLOTTE | NORTH CAROLINA

Being an American Airlines and prior to that, U.S. Airways frequent flyer, I have flown through the Charlotte Airport (CLT) hundreds of times over the last 15 years. When I lived in Jacksonville, FL, anywhere that I had to go was through the Charlotte Airport hub. That meant that I became very familiar with the airport layout and it became somewhat of a second home. While the airport isn’t that close to downtown Charlotte, you can certainly see the downtown skyline from various points within the airport. In my mind, the Duke Energy Center building really identifies the Charlotte skyline. On a recent trip back to Florida I was flying through Charlotte on a red eye, which landed just after sunrise. As I made my way over from the bigger gates to the regional gates (terminal E), I happen to notice that the parting clouds allowed for some sun rays to make their way through and light up the downtown skyline. I was able to line that up that skyline with one of the regional jets and create an image that really represents the Charlotte airport. I would love to spend some more time photographing the Charlotte Airport and I am sure that I will get a chance on future layovers there. It’s certainly a great way to pass the time.
