Favorite Places to Visit in Sydney

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

If you are planning a trip to Sydney, make sure to read below about my favorite places to visit.  Sydney is an amazing city with so much coastline that it feels like everyone and everything is waterfront.  It was also the next stop on my 2017 Around-the-World trip.

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE | THE ROCKS

Maybe the most iconic building in Sydney, if not the world is the Sydney Opera House and from my hotel room, I had a beautiful view of it.  I stayed in The Rocks section of Sydney, at the Holiday Inn Old Sydney and it was by far the best place that I could have stayed.  It is centrally located and has a rooftop bar/pool/spa that offers amazing views of not only the Opera House but also the Sydney Harbor Bridge.  Everything that I wanted to do was within walking distance, including Vivid Sydney and Circular Quay, where I could catch a ferry to anywhere else that I wanted to go.  The cruise terminal in also in this same area if you like looking at big boats.  Make sure to explore the area and see the opera house from all angles!

SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE | OLD SYDNEY

Adjacent to the Rocks is the 85-year old Sydney Harbour Bridge.  It not only serves as a great subject for Sydney photographs but walking out onto it gives you a great spot for taking photos of the Sydney Harbor and all of the sites that surrounds it.  You can also book tours to go up the towers as well.

HORNBY LIGHTHOUSE | WATSONS BAY

You can take a ferry ride around the bay, leaving from Circular Quay and get off at the Watsons Bay Wharf.  From there you can walk north and explore some of the beaches and neighborhoods of Watsons Bay.  At the northernmost tip lies the Hornby Lighthouse.  From the lighthouse, you can see Middle Head, North Head and Manly.  If you have the time and the energy, walk south along the coast to my next favorite place in Sydney, Bondi Beach.  If you aren't up for the walk, there are buses that can run you down there as well.

BONDI BEACH

What trip to Australia would be complete without a trip to the beach.  One of the most famous beaches in Australia is Bondi Beach in Sydney.  While the actual beach is not much more than a crescent bay, there is a lot to explore around the area, including some of the surrounding cliff-side neighborhoods or maybe taking a swim in the Bondi Iceberg's POOL.  Whatever you do, you are sure to enjoy Bondi and Sydney if you go.
