April in central Florida may generate thoughts of Spring Break, beaches, sun and fun but the last two are what brings 200,000+ people to Lakeland, FL for Florida’s largest convention. The Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo is the Mecca for everyone from aviation enthusiasts to kids. Serving as “Aviation’s Season Opener,” it is “Spring Break for Pilots” and so much more. Whether you are looking to watch amazing aerial demonstrations by the nation’s best pilots, climb through the incredible warbirds or meander through what seems like miles of aviation vendors, Sun ‘n Fun has it all!
SUN ‘N FUN | MORE THAN AN AIR SHOW
While I have attended many, many air shows, I still get excited every time I hear the National Anthem play and see the flag parachute into show center with one of our armed forces teams. It never gets old hearing the roar of the fighter jets or the distinctive sound of a war bird scream by but what makes Sun ‘n Fun so unique is that it is not only an air show, but a fly-in. Thousands of pilots from all over the country fly their planes in and put them on display for all to see. No matter how many times that you attend, you will always see something new, something strange, an aircraft that you may never even knew existed. Another unique aspect is that many of these pilots will camp in, around or even under their aircraft. This means that Sun ‘n Fun is a week-long, 24 hour a day event. Even after the show in the sky winds down, you can always find some good food and events to attend.

Sun ‘n Fun is not just for pilots but for everyone. With on-going family-friendly events on the ground, exciting flying displays by military and civilian demonstrations teams filling the skies, there is so much to fill your weekend or even week in Lakeland, FL.
